GABON : Mounguengui’s powerful connections keep him at football federation helm despite scandal

The Gabonese football federation is trying, with some difficulty, to move on from a major controversy that saw its president, Pierre-Alain Mounguengui, spending six months last year in Libreville’s central prison. Mounguengui was indicted on 5 May for “failure to report crimes of paedophilia” following an investigation published in December 2021 by the British newspaper the Guardian about the former national coach of the under-17 team, Patrick Assoumou Eyi.The Fédération
